The Thinking Behind the Work

When I built and led the professional development function at a global executive search firm, I had the privilege of working closely with hundreds of leaders at moments of genuine transition — new roles, new challenges, new expectations of themselves. What I observed then, and what I have continued to observe in my own practice since founding Kemp Street Partners in 2015, has shaped everything about how I work.

The gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it is rarely about capability. It is almost always about something more internal; the stories leaders tell themselves about who they are, what they are allowed to do, and what others expect of them. That insight sits at the heart of everything I do.

What I bring to every engagement is a genuine commitment to the science. I trained as a mathematician before I became a coach, and that instinct — to look for the evidence, to understand the mechanism, not just the outcome — has never left me. I have also led teams and held P&L responsibility, so I understand the pressures leaders are navigating from the inside, not just the outside. My coaching accreditation is from Columbia University. I am a certified practitioner of the Leadership Circle Profile, ESCI, and NBI. But credentials aside, what I am most interested in is whether the work actually lands: whether leaders walk away with something they can use the next day, not just insight they cannot quite translate.

Meet Liane

My work spans executive coaching, leadership and team development, and effectiveness and program design. Some clients come to me as individuals, wanting to shift something specific in how they lead. Others bring me into their organisations to design and deliver programs that build capability across a leadership group or team. The context varies considerably; the underlying question is frequently the same.

I work across Australia, New Zealand, and internationally, with senior and C-suite leaders from industries as diverse as financial services, technology, education, healthcare, not-for-profit, and government.

I am frequently asked if I have preference for an industry sector or role. My answer is that I am largely agnostic as to sector and function because the internal work of leadership turns out to be remarkably consistent across all of them.
